opmnctl: opmn start failed

I would like to mention an issue that I faced today while bouncing opmnctl process.

The error I could see is given below:

[oracle@host]./opmnctl startall
p[,mct;” starting opmn and all managed processes…
opmnctl: opmn start failed

However, there are no errors in the error log file present in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/logs

The HTTP_Server~1 log file has the below error:

——–
10/11/08 12:22:03 Start process
——–
apachectl is not owned by this user

The error will mislead us in hunting for the workaround.

I have checked the file permissions and user permissions of httpd.conf file as well as apachectl server process and everything seems to be fine. Most importantly, the http server is not running on 80 port.

I got a clue when I looked at the log ons.log present in location $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs and it shows the below error:

10/11/08 12:45:47 [4] ONS server initiated
10/11/08 12:45:47 [4] Write failed to $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/.formfactor (No space left on device) [-1/23]

When I checked the disk usage, it is 100%. Now, everyone can guess the workaround.. Cleared the space and everything started working fine.

Hi Mahender,

I still get this error although my disk space is just 71%. I can’t get to start my policy manager as opmn does not start. Is there any other way i can start PM other than opmnctl…

Hi Ashrock,

Policy Manager is a http server plug-in so starting opmn is the only way to start PM. Please reply with the error that you found in Apache logs error_log*.

Please also check whether you are using the right version of Policy Manager installer.

Reply with OS Version, 64-bit or 32-bit and Policy Manager installer you are using.

-Mahendra.
