This post covers 10 things an Oarcle Apps DBA<\/strong> or SOA Administrator<\/strong> must know to install\/deploy and configure Oracle SOA \/ BPM 12c .<\/p>\n

If\u00a0you are\u00a0new to Oracle Fusion Middleware<\/strong> or WebLogic Server<\/strong>, I suggest go through my previous post on WebLogic Domain – Admin , Managed Server and Cluster<\/a> or go through my flagship Training on Oracle Fusion Middleware<\/a><\/p>\n

Here are 10 things that you must understand before you start installing SOA 12c (things have changed between 11g & 12c so ensure that you read them carefully<\/span>).<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> There are different installation options (software package) for SOA 12c depending on audience\/usages<\/p>\n

a) Installation for Development<\/strong> – This installation type is for developers and You need Jdeveloper with SOA Quick Start Distribution. Use Guide here<\/a>\u00a0to install 12c SOA & BPM Quick Start Distribution for Developers<\/strong><\/p>\n

b)<\/strong> Install SOA for Production Environment<\/strong> – You have two options<\/strong> here<\/p>\n

Option 1<\/strong> – Standard Installation\u00a0 : Install SOA\/BPM in Single Node
\nOption 2<\/strong> – High Availability (HA)\u00a0 : Install SOA\/BPM in Active-Active Cluster for HA with ESS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Note: I am going to focus on option 1 of SOA\/BPM 12c for Apps DBAs in this post and HA with ESS in next post.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> You can install & Configure SOA with different options<\/p>\n

a)<\/strong> Just SOA in a WebLogic Managed Server
\nb)<\/strong> SOA with BPM in a single Managed Server
\nc)<\/strong> SOA with BPM in one Managed Server and BAM in second Managed Server<\/p>\n

Note: BPM stands for Business Process Managemet and BAM stands for Busienss<\/span>
\nActivity Monitoring<\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> SOA\/BPM\/BAM suite\u00a0can\u00a0be deployed\u00a0in different Topology<\/strong><\/p>\n

a) Standalone Topolgy for BPM<\/strong> – This option is for simple BPM domain with no
\ncluster<\/strong> capability: In this option, you get WebLogic Domain with Admin Server
\n<\/strong>and one Managed Server<\/strong> (hosting SOA & BPM)<\/p>\n

b) Oracle SOA with Enterprise Scheduler (ESS) Topology<\/strong> –\u00a0 This is similar to
\nStandalone but with High Availability and Enterprise Scheduler Service (ESS).
\nYou deploy SOA\/ESS (both) in two managed servers part of Cluster<\/strong> (SOA\/ESS is
\ndeployed on this cluster) in WebLogic Domain with one Admin Server<\/strong> .<\/p>\n

c) BPM with ADF Topology<\/strong> : This topolgy is used if you are deploying
\napplication that uses both BPM and custom User Interface (UI) developed using
\nOracle ADF (Application Development Framework)<\/p>\n

You deploy BPM in<\/strong> two managed servers part of Cluster<\/strong> and second cluster<\/strong> of two managed servers running ADF all in a WebLogic Domain with one Admin Server.<\/p>\n

d) SOA & BAM Topology<\/strong> : This topolgy is used if you are using Business
\nActivity Monitoring (BAM) with SOA Suite.<\/p>\n

You deploy SOA in two managed servers part of Cluster and second cluster of
\ntwo managed servers running BAM all in a WebLogic Domain with one Admin
\nServer.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Oracle Enterprise Schedule Service<\/strong> (ESS) provides the ability to run
\ndifferent job types, including: Java, PL\/SQL, binary scripts, web services,
\nand EJBs distributed across the nodes in an Oracle WebLogic Server<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> There is new terminology\/component introduced in 12c called ‘Infrastructure<\/strong>‘ or ‘Fusion Middleware Infrastructure<\/strong>‘ that includes<\/p>\n

a)<\/strong> MDS – Metadat Services Repository
\nb)<\/strong> ADF – Application Development Framework
\nc)<\/strong> OWSM – Oracle Web Services Manager
\nd)<\/strong> UMS – User Messaging Service
\ne)<\/strong> OPSS- Oracle Platform Security Services
\nf)<\/strong> Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> High Level Installation Steps\u00a0of SOA\/BPM 12c Standalone Topology<\/p>\n

a)<\/strong> Check Pre-Requisite like Kernal settings, packages, O.S. users, certified JDK
\nb)<\/strong> Install Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure\u00a0that\u00a0install WebLogic\/Coherence etc\u00a0(This is new introduced in 12c<\/span>)
\nc)<\/strong> Install SOA\/BPM in same Oracle Home<\/strong> as Fusion Middleware Infrastrucutre Home
\nd)<\/strong> Create SOA\/BPM Schema using Repository Creation Utility (RCU)
\ne)<\/strong> Create WebLogic domain and configre SOA\/BPM using config.sh<\/strong><\/p>\n

7.<\/strong> SOA Core Extensions<\/strong> (SCE) is a feature delivered with SOA 12c to provide the necessary capability for Oracle Application Integration Architecture <\/strong>(AIA) based integration projects to continue operating after an upgrade to SOA 12c.<\/p>\n

SCE<\/strong> is insatlled as part of SOA\/BPM software and you configure this as part of SOA\/BPM configuration when runnign Config.sh<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong> When you configure SOA schema using RCU, from 12c onwards you are prompted
\nfor two parameter in RCU<\/p>\n

a) Database Profile<\/strong> : Value could be Large<\/strong>, Medium<\/strong>, Low
\nb) Healthcare Integration<\/strong>: Value could be Yes<\/strong> or No<\/strong><\/p>\n

For these custom variables in RCU, refer RCU 12c Guide here<\/a><\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>: When you select Large , schema is created using database feature called ‘Interval Partitioning<\/strong>‘ to improve performance of large deployment and support purging.<\/span><\/p>\n

9.<\/strong> Healthcare Integration and BPM component are mututally exclusive<\/strong> and are not supported in Same domain .<\/p>\n

Note: If you want both Healthcare Integration and BPM with SOA then ensure that you configure SOA and BPM in different WebLogic Domains<\/span><\/p>\n

10.<\/strong> Terminology used for SOA\/BPM and other related products used during deployment<\/p>\n

SOA – Service Oriented Architecture
\nBPM – Business Process Management
\nBAM – Business Activity Monitoring
\nADF – Application Development Framework
\nESS – Enterprise Scheduler Service
\nMDS – Metadata Services
\nOWSM – Oracle Web Services Manager
\nRCU – Repository Creation Utility
\nUMS – User Messaging Service
\nSCE – SOA Core Extensions
\nAIA – Application Integration Architecture
\nOPSS- Oracle Platform Security Services
