O<\/strong>racle E<\/strong>nterprise\u00a0M<\/strong>anager (OEM) Grid Control\u00a0is monitoring software for\u00a0Oracle Database,\u00a0F<\/strong>usion M<\/strong>iddleW<\/strong>are (FMW including OAS & SOA Suite), Oracle E-Business Suite, Siebel, SAP ….<\/p>\n

This post covers overview of various components\u00a0in OEM Grid Control<\/p>\n

Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) \/ Grid Control Component<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Oracle Management Agent<\/strong>: is software that sits on all nodes(machines) which you would like to monitor. Configuration file<\/strong> for Management Agent is $OH\/ <hostname>_<sid>\/ sysman\/ config\/ emd.properties<\/strong>. Agent uploads managed data (from server its monitoring) to Management Service<\/strong> via HTTP\u00a0Server (URL of management Service HTTP Server is defined by REPOSITORY_URL<\/strong> parameter in emd.properties<\/strong>)
\n\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 Management Agent<\/strong> software also includes inbuilt HTTP Listener (different from standalone HTTP Server)\u00a0to accept messages(data) from Management Service<\/strong> and this URL is defined by parameter EMD_URL <\/strong>in emd.properties.<\/p>\n

Management Agent Log<\/strong> & Trace <\/strong>files are in $AGENT_HOME (or $OH\/ <hostname>_<sid>) \/ sysman\/ emagent.log<\/strong>, emagent.trc<\/strong>,\u00a0emagentfetchlet.log<\/strong>, emagentfetchlet.trc<\/strong> , emagent.nohup<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n2. Oracle Management Service<\/strong> : Management Service upload data (from Management Agent<\/strong> via HTTP Server) to Management Repository<\/strong> (sysman <\/strong>schema in oracle database) using JDBC. Configuration file for Management Service is $OH\/<hostname>_<sid>\/ sysman\/ config\/ emoms.properties<\/strong>.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Repository connection details are defined by parameter emdRepSID<\/strong>, emdRepServer<\/strong>, emdRepConnectDescriptor<\/strong> and emdRepUser <\/strong>in emoms.properties
\n\u00a0 Management Service also monitors Management Agent (to check its up and running), submit enterprise manager jobs and other functions using EMD_URL<\/strong> (Management Agent runs inbuilt HTTP listener) defined in emoms.properties<\/strong><\/p>\n

Management Service Log<\/strong> & Trace<\/strong>files are in $AS_HOME (or $OH\/ <hostname>_<sid>) \u00a0\/ sysman\/ emoms.log<\/strong>, emoms.trc
\n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. Oracle Management Repository<\/strong> : is Database Schema (sysman)<\/strong>\u00a0to store Enterprise Manager Data. Management Service connects to Management Repository using JDBC<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Grid Control<\/strong> Console<\/strong>: is browser based tool to monitor and manage targets.\u00a0\u00a0Administrator uses console (URL on browser using webcache post of Grid Control Server) which connects to Webcache Port of OEM Grid Console.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Webcache<\/strong> in turn forward request to HTTP server<\/strong> of OEM Grid Middle Tier. HTTP Server retrieve data from Management Repository<\/strong> via Management Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5. HTTP Server<\/strong>: recieve requests from webcache, pulls data from Repository<\/strong> via Management Service<\/strong>and return response back to Webcache. HTTP Server also receive data from Management Agents<\/strong>, forward it to Management Service<\/strong> to store them in Management Repository.<\/p>\n

6. Webcache<\/strong> : acts as web accelerator; forward request from Users (console) to HTTP Server and response back from HTTP server to Users (Console)<\/p>\n

\nManagement Agent<\/strong> connect to Management Service <\/strong>via HTTP Server of Grid Control Middleware where as Management Service<\/strong> connect directly (using HTTP protocol) to Management Agent<\/strong> (Agent software include inbuilt http server)
