Let suppose below is the read me file of one patch says:<\/font><\/p>\n

This patch contains one or more driver files to be applied with AutoPatch.
\nPlease apply the driver files in the following order (if they exist) :
\nc3196140.drv (This is the copy driver)
\nd3196140.drv (This is the database driver)
\ng3196140.drv (This is the generate driver)<\/font><\/p>\n

How can I identify that this patch (which driver file) is to be applied for which application node (forms & web) tier or concurrent manager tier ?<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

\nOracle Apps Patch drivers are broadly classified in to two category split driver<\/strong> and unified driver<\/strong>
\n.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Split Driver<\/strong> – means patch actions are divided by function i.e.
\na)<\/strong> cXXXXX.drv – Copy Driver<\/strong> to change product files
\nb)<\/strong> dXXXXX.drv – Database Driver<\/strong> to change Database Objects
\nc)<\/strong> gXXXXX.drv – Generate Driver<\/strong> to generate new forms, messages, graphics<\/p>\n

2. Unified Driver<\/strong> – contains all three functions (copy, database & generate) into single driver
\na)<\/strong> uXXXXX.drv – Contains all three functions Copy<\/strong>, Database<\/strong> and Generate<\/strong><\/p>\n

Where to apply which driver file in Multi Node Environment ?<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> For split patch, You must run copy driver <\/strong>(cXXXXXX.drv<\/strong>) on all APPL_TOP containing one or more files being replaced by patch. If confused or not sure which files are being replaced by patch then its good idea to apply c driver on all tier<\/strong> i.e. Web, Forms, Concurrent Manager, Administration Server.<\/p>\n

2. <\/strong>For split patch, You must run database driver<\/strong> (dXXXXXX.drv<\/strong>) on Administration (Admin) Node. (This is usually same as Concurrent Manager Node). To find where is your Admin Node<\/strong> run sql
\nSQL> select node_name, support_admin from apps.fnd_nodes;<\/strong><\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> For split patch, You must run generate driver<\/strong> (gXXXXXX.drv<\/strong>) on all APPL_TOP containing one or more files generated by patch. If confused or not sure then its good idea to apply g driver on all tier<\/strong> i.e.\u00a0 Web, Forms, Concurrent amd Administration Server.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> For unified patch<\/strong> (uXXXXXX.drv<\/strong>) , run it on all tier containing APPL_TOP i.e.\u00a0 Web, Forms, Concurrent Manager and Administration Server.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> If you are using shared APPL_TOP\/Application Tier<\/strong><\/a> then run split patch (c,d,g) or unified patch (u) from any one node.<\/p>\n

and finally<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> If you are confused about any driver file (to apply or not) then run all driver on all nodes and AutoPatch<\/strong> (adpatch<\/strong>) will determine appropriate action based on tier (forms, web, concurrent manager) and ignore steps not required on that tier.<\/p>\n

Order of application for split driver (c,d,g)<\/strong><\/u>
\nFor split patch (with c, d and g driver) apply then always in following order – Copy Driver (cXXXXX.drv), Database Driver (dXXXXX.drv) and Generate Driver (gXXXXX.drv)<\/p>\n
