I looked at\u00a0<strong>inventory log<\/strong>$INVENTORY_LOCATION\/ logs\/ installActions[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD]_[hh]-[mm]-[ss][PM|AM].log and realised error was related to <strong>O<\/strong>racle <strong>C<\/strong>onfiguration <strong>M<\/strong>anager ( <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/download.oracle.com\/docs\/html\/E12481_05\/ccrqs.htm#BABECIHI\">OCM<\/a>\u00a0)<\/p>\n<p>_______<br \/>\n<font color=\"#ff0000\">ERROR: OPatch failed because of cmd. args. problem.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">To run in silent mode, OPatch requires a response file for Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM).<br \/>\nRun $ORACLE_HOME\/OPatch\/ocm\/bin\/emocmrsp to generate an OCM response file. The generated response file can be reused <\/font><font color=\"#ff0000\">on different platforms and in multiple OPatch silent installs.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">To regenerate an OCM response file, rerun\u00a0 $ORACLE_HOME\/OPatch\/ocm\/bin\/emocmrsp.<\/font><br \/>\n________<\/p>\n<p>To fix this issue, I created <strong>OCM response file<\/strong>using $ORACLE_HOME\/ OPatch\/ ocm\/ bin\/ <strong>emocmrsp<\/strong>\u00a0, I tried again <strong>runInstaller<\/strong> but still faced same error .<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>On futher looking at <strong>patch log<\/strong>(Installer was running one-off patch using opatch in silent mode) at<\/p>\n<p>$ORACLE_HOME\/ .patch_storage\/ [patch_number]\/ Apply_[patchNo]_[MM]-[DD]-[YYYY]_[hh]-[mm]-[ss].log<\/p>\n<p>_________<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) is included with this release of OPatch.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">This is a OCM patch.<br \/>\n&#8220;<strong>Home has OCM installed but not configured<\/strong>&#8220;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">To run in silent mode, OPatch requires a response file for Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM).<br \/>\nRun $ORACLE_HOME\/OPatch\/ocm\/bin\/emocmrsp to generate an OCM response file. The generated response file can be reused on different platforms and in multiple OPatch silent installs.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\">To regenerate an OCM response file, rerun\u00a0 $ORACLE_HOME\/OPatch\/ocm\/bin\/emocmrsp.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>________<\/p>\n<p>I realized that OUI was calling OPatch in silent mode<br \/>\nopatch apply\u00a0 -silent -force -oh $ORACLE_HOME -invPtrLoc $INVENTORY_LOCATION\/oraInst.loc<\/p>\n<p>and there was no way I could pass <strong>OCM response file <\/strong>opatch option in OUI screen like &#8220;-<strong>ocmrf<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This made me think to look at error again and found this &#8220;<font color=\"#ff0000\">Home has OCM installed but not configured<\/font>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>so question\u00a0was\u00a0How to configure <strong>OCM<\/strong> (Oracle Configuration Manager) in Oracle Home.\u00a0OCM configuration\u00a0is\u00a0 documented <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/download.oracle.com\/docs\/cd\/B19306_01\/install.102\/e10041\/install.htm#BABDADAF\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used <strong>$ORACLE_HOME\/ccr\/bin\/setupCCR \u2013s \u2013d<\/strong> to configure OCM where<\/p>\n<p><strong>-s<\/strong> parameter indicates the acceptance of the Oracle Configuration Manager license agreement.<br \/>\n<strong>-d<\/strong> parameter indicates Oracle Configuration Manager will be installed in Disconnected Mode.<\/p>\n<p>I then clicked <strong>Retry<\/strong> on Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and it worked this time<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While upgrading one of Oracle Software using runInstaller, I received error One-off patch installation failed during configuration .
