This post covers overview of Oracle Apps R12 Multi-node<\/strong> installation (two or more machines)<\/p>\n

Things good to know about multi-node \/ distributed installation
\n<\/u><\/strong>
\n1.<\/strong> Oracle Apps\u00a0R12 is\u00a0mainly\u00a0categorised in to
\na) Database Tier<\/strong> – Oracle Database and Database Listener
\nb) Application\/Middle Tier<\/strong>– Oracle Web Server (Apache), Apps Server (OC4J – oacore, oaforms, oafm) and\u00a0Concurrent Manager<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Oracle Application Tier consists of following services, which you can run on one or more machines
\n– Root Service<\/strong> (OPMN)
\n– WebEntry Point Services<\/strong> (OHS)
\n– Web Application Services<\/strong>(OC4J- oacore, oafm, forms)
\n– Batch Processing Services<\/strong>(CM, apps listener, fullfillment)
\n– Other Services<\/strong> (MWA, Metric client\/server)<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> You can install both Database Tier<\/strong> and Application (Middle) Tier<\/strong> on single machine (This type of installation is called as Single Node install<\/strong>)
\nor
\nYou can install Database Tier<\/strong> on one machine and Application Tier<\/strong>\u00a0services on one or more machines (This type of installation is called as Multi Node install<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> If you are installing apps on three machines (like below) then you need to run rapidwiz<\/strong> (Installer for R12) three times . First on database tier and then on application tier.
\n– Machine 1 – Database & Concurrent Manager
\n– Machine 2 – Forms Tier
\n– Machine 3 – Web Tier<\/p>\n

5. <\/strong>For multi-node (distributed) installation you get an option to use shared application tier file systems (multiple machine sharing same application tier file system) .<\/p>\n

Note* \u00a0Shared application tier option is not available for windows<\/span><\/p>\n

6. <\/strong>All APPL_TOPs on multi-node system contain the same files, regardless of particular node’s role (web tier, forms tier, CM). This is also know as unified APPL_TOP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7.<\/strong> It is possible to change single node R12 installation to multi-node configuration after installation.\u00a0It is possible to add\u00a0additional application\/middle tier (after installation) using cloning. For steps follow Oracle My Support note # 406982.1
\nOracle Apps R12 Multi-Node\/Distributed Installation Steps<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Install Apps R12 on Database Tier<\/strong> first by running rapidwiz<\/strong>
\n1.1<\/strong> Select “Create a new configuration<\/strong>” on Configuration Choice Screen<\/p>\n

1.2<\/strong> On Application Server Node – Change Host Name<\/strong> details (if current host Machine1 is for only database)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

1.3<\/strong> Select Services<\/strong> from list for application tier node, for more info on services<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.4<\/strong> Click Add Server if you are planning to use more application tier<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

1.5<\/strong> Fill Application Tier details and select services<\/p>\n

1.6<\/strong> repeat step 1.4 & 1.5 for all application tier nodes
\n1.7<\/strong> Install apps on machine1<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Copy conf_$SID.txt<\/strong>from machine1 to all application tier nodes under \/tmp. \u00a0conf_$SID.txt should be in $ORACLE_HOME\/appsutil <\/strong>on database tier node ($INSTALL_BASE\/ db\/ tech_st\/ 11.1.0\/ appsutil)<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Install Apps R12 on other machines (any order) by running rapidwiz
\n3.1<\/strong> Select “Load the following saved configuration<\/strong>” on Configuration Choice Screen.<\/p>\n

3.2<\/strong>From browse button select conf_$SID.txt copied from Machine1
\n3.3<\/strong> Install apps on Machine2<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Repeat step 3 on all remaining application tier.<\/p>\n
