<\/a> OID<\/span><\/strong> (Oracle Internet Directory) is LDAP<\/span><\/strong> (Lightweight<\/span> Directory Access Protocol) Server from Oracle where as AD<\/strong> (Active Directory) is LDAP<\/span> server from Microsoft. Almost all oracle products (E-Business Suite 11i\/R12, Portal, Application Server, Forms & Reports … ) integration<\/span> with Active Directory is done via OID<\/span> (OAS component).<\/p>\n

Few things to note in Integration of OID<\/span> with Active Directory<\/strong>
\n————————————————————————
\n1.<\/strong> Users can be created in AD and propagated to OID<\/span> or Vice Versa<\/span> or can
\nbe created in both and then synched<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Password for users<\/p>\n

—-2.a<\/strong>) can be stored in AD and not OID<\/span>(You can authenticate against AD) via External Authentication Plug-in (created in OID<\/span>)<\/p>\n

—2.b<\/strong>) Can be stored at both places AD & OID<\/span> and synhced<\/span> regularly<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> User synchronization between OID<\/span> and AD (from OID<\/span> side, both import & export) is done via DIP (Directory Integration & Provisioning<\/span> ) component of OID<\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Synchronization of user (to & from) between OID<\/span> and AD is done by predefined connector (shipped with OIDwhich you can modify\/configure as per your need)<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Synchronization between AD-OID<\/span> via above mentioned connector can be one way (import only or export only) or two way (both import and export)<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> You can synch<\/span> all or particular attributes<\/span> of user entry which you wish to configure (this is done via mapping file- More on mapping files coming soon..<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Configuration Highlights<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Synchronization of users between OID<\/span> & AD happens via synchronization profile (including connect detail, direction of synch<\/span>, attribute<\/span> and source & target domain) created during installation of OID<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Three provisioning<\/span> profile created by default are<\/a><\/p>\n

—ActiveImport<\/span><\/strong> : Importing Changes<\/span> from MS-AD to OID<\/span> (DirSyn<\/span> approach for tracking changes in AD)<\/p>\n

—ActiveChgImp<\/span> <\/strong>: Importing Changes<\/span> from MS-AD to OID<\/span> (USNChanged<\/span> approach for tracking changes in AD )<\/p>\n

—ActiveExport<\/span><\/strong> : Exporting changes from OID<\/span> to MS-AD
\n(More on DirSyn<\/span> & USNChanged<\/span> coming soon with practical examples on which one to choose depending on requirement)<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> These provisioning profiles can be customized using dipassitant<\/span>
\n(dipassistant<\/span> –gui<\/span><\/strong>) or using LDAP<\/span> commands (ldapadd<\/span> or ldapmodify<\/span>)
\n4. <\/strong>If you are synchronizing from AD to OID<\/span> where AD is multi-domain and global catalog is not configured againt<\/span> Multi domain AD, then you need
\none synchronization profile per domain for AD but if global catalogue is
\nconfigured you create only one provisioning profile against GC<\/span> (global
\ncatalog and not garbage collector); If synchronization is from OID<\/span> to AD
\n(with multiple domain) you need provisioning<\/span> profile for each domain
\nirrespective of global catalog (GC<\/span> doesn’t play a role in synch<\/span> for
\nExport from OID<\/span> to AD)
\n5.<\/strong> Decide on what information to synchronize and at what location in
\ndirectory information tree to synchronize.<\/p>\n
