This is first step for step by step Installation of Oracle RAC Database<\/strong> on single machine using VMWare Server. for overview visit http:\/\/becomeappsdba.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/are-you-scared-of-oracle-rac-database.html<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Broad level for Part I Install VMWare and Linux<\/strong>
\n– Download, Register and Install VMWare Server
\n– Download and Install Red Hat Linux ES 3
\n– Add virtual network card for interconnect
\n– Add virtual shared shared disk (voting disk, ocr and ASM)<\/p>\n

1.1 Install VMWare Server on Windows Machine<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Download and install VMWare Server from VMWare Site (click here)<\/a> (Download windows version as we are installing on windows desktop\/laptop<\/span>). <\/span>You have to register for VMware Server on site mentioned above to recieve licence key used in installation of VMWare Server <\/span><\/p>\n

1.2 Create Virtual Machine <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

–Start VM Ware server console from Start Menu on your windows operating system<\/p>\n

–Create a New Virtual Machine by \u201cCtrl + N\u201d or File -> New -> Virtual Machine<\/strong><\/em> (From Console Tool Bar<\/span>)<\/p>\n

<\/a>Since we are installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 so I have selected Version Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a>Select location where you wish to keep this RAC<\/span><\/span> Machine Configuration and Linux Disks<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/a>Create this Linux Machine of size 15 GB, we will add another 5GB each for voting disk, ocr<\/span><\/span> and ASM<\/span><\/span> for data files.<\/p>\n

1.3 Download\/Order and install Red Hat Linux E.S. 3 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Download red hat enterprise server linux<\/span><\/span> version 3 from http:\/\/rhn.redhat.com\/<\/a> (You can install any other linux<\/span><\/span> version or operating system depending on availability. For this step by step Oracle RAC<\/span><\/span> installation, I used Red Hat ES 3<\/em><\/span>)<\/p>\n

If you have downloaded Red Hat ES burn them as iso<\/span><\/span> images.<\/p>\n

Insert Disk1 of<\/span> Red Hat Linux ES3 in your desktop\/laptop and start RAC<\/span><\/span>1 virtual Machine created above<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

During Disk Setup select Automatic Disk Partition<\/strong> and when you get this screen edit by clicking edit button and change swap space to 1500 MB<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

During Package Selection, Select Customize Package list and Add KDE<\/span><\/span> Desktop Environment<\/strong> and Development<\/span> Tools <\/strong>from list<\/p>\n

\nSelect No Firewall<\/strong><\/p>\n

During hostname<\/span><\/span> enter machine name as rac1.focusthread.com <\/strong>this you can change later as well<\/p>\n

1.4 Create User oracle:oracle <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Create operating system user oracle (By default<\/span> it will create group oracle and assign this to user oracle<\/span><\/em>). You can use GUI as shown below or command<\/span> useradd<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
