This post is overview of Terminology used in OID (Oracle Internet Directory) high availability deployment (Active-Active) – Configuring OID 11g in Multimaster Replication (ASR based)\u00a0coming soon ..<\/font><\/p>\n

a) Supplier <\/strong>: Directory Server in replication environment which provides updates to other directory servers is called Supplier
\nb) Consumer<\/strong> : Directory Server in replication environment to which changes are propagated from suppliers\u00a0is called as consumer.
\nc) DRG (Directory Replication Group)<\/strong> : Set of OID Servers that participate in replication
\nd) Replication Agreement :<\/strong>Entry in Directory Server that represents relationship among OID servers which are part of DRG (Directory Replication Group). It resides on all OID nodes which are member of DRG.
\n.<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Directory Server can have both read-only<\/strong> or read-write<\/strong> replicas
\n
\n2.<\/strong> OID server can be both supplier<\/strong> and consumer <\/strong><\/p>\n

3. <\/strong>OID Replication can be defined\/configured in following ways
\n3.1)<\/strong> Based on change propagation – Oracle Advanced Replication<\/strong> (aka ASR) or LDAP<\/strong>
\n3.2)<\/strong> Based on Direction – One-way<\/strong>, Two-way<\/strong>, Peer-to-peer<\/strong>
\n3.3) Based on Content<\/strong> – Full directory replication, Partial directory replication
\nNote* For partial directory replication only LDAP based replication is supported. Partial replication is NOT supported by Oracle Advanced Replication (aka ASR)
\n<\/font>
\n4.<\/strong> There are two Ways in which replication can be configure in OID
\na) Oracle Advanced Replication<\/strong> – This type of replication uses row-level replication with asynchronous data propagation. This type of replication is also known as ASR<\/strong> – Advanced Symmetric Replication
\nb) LDAP based replication<\/strong> – Data in OID is synchronized using LDAP (Light Weight Access Protocol)<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Directory Replication Group (DRG) are of following types
\na) Single Master DRG<\/strong>– One supplier and rest other OID’s are consumers.
\nb) Multimaster DRG<\/strong> – Each OID node in DRG acts as Supplier and Consumer (aka peer-to-peer or n-way DRG)
\nc) Fan-Out DRG<\/strong> – Supplier OID node replicates data to consumer OID node and that Consumer OID node in turn supplies it to other consumer OID nodes.\u00a0 (Note* Only LDAP based replication is supported with this type of DRG<\/font>)
\nd) Multimaster with fan-out DRG<\/strong>– combination of both multimaster DRG and fan-out DRG<\/p>\n

Note*<\/strong> If you are using 10g AS SSO (aka OSSO) then ASR based replication is mandatory. LDAP based replication is\u00a0NOT supported with 10g AS SSO<\/font><\/p>\n
