Application Instances<\/strong> (new entity introduced in OIM 11gR2) is the entity that can be provisioned<\/strong> to a user. Application Instance are published to the catalog<\/strong> and user can access application instances via catalog.<\/p>\n

In Pre-OIM 11gR2, to provision account<\/strong> you select name of the resource<\/strong> where as from OIM 11gR2 onwards resources<\/strong> and entitlements<\/strong> are bundles in Application Instances<\/strong> which user can select via catalog<\/strong> (catalog is another feature introduced in OIM 11gr2 more on catalog in OIM 11gR2 later<\/span>)<\/p>\n

This post covers everything you (as an OIM administrator) need to know about Application Instances in OIM 11gR2<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Use link “Application Instances<\/strong>” under configuration<\/strong> in System Administration Console (\/sysadmin<\/strong>) to create and manage Application Instances.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Application instance is combination of an IT Resource instance<\/strong> and resource object<\/strong>\u00a0that means you can’t have two application instances with same IT Resource instance<\/strong> and Resource object<\/strong>\u00a0(either IT Resource instance or resource objects must be different between two Application Instances)<\/p>\n

Note: you will not see any thing in resource Object unless OIM connector is installed and configured with OIM.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note: You can create application instances without connector installation for disconnected application instance<\/strong> (More on disconnect applications later)<\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Disconnected application instance can only be created when a sandbox<\/a> is active. (More on disconnect applications later)<\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Application instances are published to Organizations<\/strong> in OIM and these application instances can be requested (via request catalog) by users belonging to Organization to which this application instance is published.<\/p>\n

Note: Useful feature in multi-tenant environment where same OIM is used by multiple organisations to provision accounts<\/span>.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> An application instance can be associated with multiple organisations.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> An application instance can have entitlements<\/strong> associated with it (Entitlement can be role, group or responsibility<\/span>). For example with Application Instance “Active Directory”<\/strong> you can also attach entitlement (group in AD)<\/p>\n

To allow users to request entitlement, you must add child object and add an attribute that is tagged as an Entitlement<\/strong>. More on entitlements in application instance later<\/span>

\n7.<\/strong> An Application Instance<\/strong> will be published to the catalog by running a scheduled job “Catalog Synchronization Job<\/strong>” (This job is configured to run every 15 minute<\/span>)<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong> Application Instance can have parent application instance and in such case new application instance inherits all properties of parent application instance.<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong> When you delete an application instance it does a soft delete<\/strong> . For hard delete run schedule job “Application Instance Post Delete Processing Job<\/strong>” (with mode Delete<\/strong>). More here<\/a><\/p>\n

10.<\/strong> Pre-defined Roles associated with Application instance in OIM 11gR2 are\u00a0a) Application Instance Viewer<\/strong> b) Application Instance Administrator<\/strong> c) Application Authorizer<\/strong><\/p>\n
