{"id":4648,"date":"2012-11-06T14:51:51","date_gmt":"2012-11-06T18:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/?p=4648"},"modified":"2012-11-06T14:51:51","modified_gmt":"2012-11-06T18:51:51","slug":"target-resource-or-managed-resource-vs-trusted-source-or-authoritative-source-mode-oim-integration-with-applications-ad-oid-ovd-ebs-sap-hr-ldap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/index.php\/2012\/11\/06\/target-resource-or-managed-resource-vs-trusted-source-or-authoritative-source-mode-oim-integration-with-applications-ad-oid-ovd-ebs-sap-hr-ldap\/","title":{"rendered":"Target Resource (or Managed Resource) vs Trusted Source (or Authoritative Source) Mode : OIM integration with applications (AD, OID, OVD, EBS, SAP, HR, LDAP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this post I am going to cover two modes (<strong>Target Resource<\/strong> or <strong>Trusted Source<\/strong>) that OIM uses to integrate with applications like LDAP (OID, AD, OVD, iPlanet), HR (EBS, SAP, etc), Unix (Linux, Solaris), etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) can be integrated with Applications (LDAP, AD, OID, HR etc) in <strong>one of two modes<\/strong><br \/>\na) <strong>Target Resource<\/strong> <strong>Mode<\/strong><br \/>\nor<br \/>\nb) <strong>Trusted Source<\/strong> <strong>Mode<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> You configure application (AD, OID, OVD, HR) etc in<strong>\u00a0Trusted Source Mode<\/strong> if that application is source of truth for user provisioning (All users are created in Application and OIM reconcile data from application).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong>\u00a0You configure application (AD, OID, OVD, HR) etc in<strong>\u00a0Target Resource Mode<\/strong>\u00a0if that OIM is source of truth for user provisioning (All users are created in OIM and OIM then provision accounts in Application. Any changes in Application are reconciled back to OIM).<\/p>\n<p>To know more about <strong>provisioning<\/strong> and <strong>reconciliation<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/index.php\/2010\/07\/01\/resource-reconciliation-provisioning-and-connector-in-oracle-identity-manager-oim\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> <strong>Target Resource<\/strong> mode is also called as <strong>Managed Resource<\/strong> mode or <strong>Account Management<\/strong> mode<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> <strong>Trusted Source<\/strong> mode is also called as <strong>Authoritative Source<\/strong> mode or <strong>Identity Reconciliation<\/strong> mode<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> To find out in what mode (<strong>Trusted Source<\/strong> or <strong>Target Resource<\/strong>) <strong>OIM 11gR1<\/strong> is integrated with application<\/p>\n<p>a) Login to <strong>OIM Advanced Console<\/strong> and click on <strong>Manage IT Resource<\/strong> under <strong>configuration<\/strong><br \/>\nb) Click on <strong>Edit Link<\/strong> against <strong>IT Resource<\/strong> (that is integrated with OIM and for which you wish to see configuration)<br \/>\nc) Check value of <strong>Configuration Lookup<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Note: Navigation is slightly different in OIM 11gR2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Value <strong>Lookup.Configuration.ActiveDirectory<\/strong> mean Active Directory is configured in <strong>Managed Resource Mode\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nValue <strong>Lookup.Configuration.ActiveDirectory<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.Trusted<\/span><\/strong> mean Active Directory is configured in <strong>Trusted Source Mode\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/trusted_source_target_resource.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4650\" title=\"trusted_source_target_resource\" src=\"https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/trusted_source_target_resource.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/trusted_source_target_resource.png 450w, https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/trusted_source_target_resource-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong>\u00a0In both modes (<strong>Trusted Source<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Target Resources<\/strong>) you can reconcile data from target system in to OIM. To reconcile data from target systems, you run <strong>reconciliation schedules jobs<\/strong> in OIM. To reconcile data in to OIM from target system (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">configured in trusted source mode<\/span>) you run different job like\u00a0<strong>[Active Directory] User Trusted Recon<\/strong>\u00a0scheduled job where as to reconcile data in to OIM from target system (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">configured in target resource mode<\/span>) you run different job like<strong>\u00a0[Active Directory] User Target Recon<\/strong>\u00a0scheduled job .<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineappsdba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/scheduled_jobs.png\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"scheduled_jobs\" In<strong>\u00a0Target Resource<\/strong> mode, if a user record is deleted on the target system and Scheduled Job &#8220;<strong>[Application] <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Target<\/span> Delete Recon<\/strong>&#8221; is run \u00a0then the corresponding<strong> [Application] User<\/strong> resource is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">revoked<\/span> from the OIM User.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: Target System or Application are system that is integrated with OIM like Active Directory \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> In <strong>Trusted Source<\/strong> mode, if a user record is deleted on the target system and Scheduled Job &#8220;<strong>[Application] <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Trusted<\/span> Delete Recon<\/strong>&#8221; is run then the corresponding OIM User is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">deleted<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: Target System or
