\u00a0You have applications (E-Business Suite 11i\/R12, Portal, Discoverer, BI Publisher) integrated with Oracle Single\u00a0sign-On (SSO) and\u00a0users complain\u00a0that they receive message\u00a0“Your Account is Locked<\/strong>“. Here are few things which can\u00a0help you in understanding this<\/p>\n

–<\/p>\n

First thing to do in case<\/strong> “User account is locked”<\/u>
\nYou should know how to unlock SSO account<\/strong>.\u00a0 These are various ways using which you can unlock account
\n1. Using OIDDAS <\/strong>: OIADDAS (Delegated Administrative Services) Login as superuser orcladmin<\/strong> (or Account with access to unlock\/Change Password) >> select Directory Tab<\/strong>\u00a0>> enter User Name<\/strong> >>\u00a0Select Unlock<\/strong> Account
\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. Using ODM<\/strong> : Oracle Directory Manager is java based tool to manage users . More can be found here<\/a> . Go to User’s entry and on right pane reset user password. (Resetting password will unlock<\/strong> account)
\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Using ldapmodify<\/strong> : add attribute “orclpwdaccountunlock<\/strong>” to user account and set its value to 1 usign ldapmodify.
\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. Using Portal<\/strong>: If you are using Oracle Portal with SSO, then reset password using Portal User Account portlet (Resetting password will unlock<\/strong> account)<\/p>\n

–<\/p>\n

Where are account locking rules defined
\n<\/u><\/strong>Next thing to identify is that where account lock rules defined
\n— Account lock rules are defined in Password Policy in OID<\/strong> (Did you know that you can use different password policy at leaf level in OID from 10.1.4.1 OID<\/font>)
\n— To check your password policy, login to OIDADMIN<\/strong>using orcladmin and go to
\nPassword Policy Management<\/strong> -> Password Policy for Realm ..<Your Realm Name>.. >> <\/strong>click on Account Lockout<\/strong> tab on right pan<\/p>\n

\"SSO<\/a><\/p>\n

– User Account can be locked only <\/strong>if “Global Lockout<\/strong>” is enabled and user try wrong password for number of times defined in “Password Maximum Failure<\/strong>” within “Password Failure Count Internal<\/strong>”
\nTo understand it, lets assume
\nA) <\/strong>If\u00a0“Password Maximum Failure<\/strong>” set to 10 and “Password Failure Count Internal<\/strong>” set to 0, then 10 consecutive wrong password will lock user account.<\/p>\n

B) <\/strong>If “Password Maximum Failure<\/strong>” set to 10 and “Password Failure Count Internal<\/strong>” set to 20 then 10 consecutive wrong password within 20 seconds<\/strong> will lock user account.<\/p>\n

– Another reason for account lock is “Password Expiry Time<\/strong>” defined in Password Policy. User Account can lock after password expiry time.<\/p>\n

Note *<\/strong><\/p>\n

Account will\u00a0remain locked for time specified by “Global Lockout Duration<\/strong>” (default is 86400 Sec i.e. 1 day) unless unlocked by Admin.<\/font><\/p>\n

How to prevent Administrative Accounts getting locked<\/u><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

You can create another password policy (possible only\u00a0from OID 10.1.4 and higher) with “No Global Lockout<\/strong>” and attach new password policy\u00a0to administrative accounts.<\/p>\n

\nFinally if your superuser “orcladmin” itself is locked
\n<\/u><\/strong>A) If super user account like “orcladmin<\/strong>” is locked you can unlock it like
\noidpasswd [connect=<OID schema database connect string>] unlock_su_acct=true
\n<\/font>
\nP.S. There are two orcladmin account <\/strong>one cn=orcladmin<\/strong> and other cn=orcladmin,cn=users, dc= <your domain><\/strong>\u00a0 (oidpasswd is required to reset password for cn=orcladmin)
\nB) If ods<\/strong> schema password (this schema holds OID data) is locked then you can unlock this using
\nSQL> alter user ods account unlock;<\/font><\/p>\n

C) If for some reason you forgot ods<\/strong>(default password is same as orcladmin or ias_admin) password then you can reset it using metalink note # 472752.1 How to Unlock\/Reset Super User cn=orcladmin When the ODS’s Password Has Been Forgotten ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

How to track Failed Login Attempts<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are are getting too many accounts locked and\u00a0you would like to know if these are from users or some one else (hacker)\u00a0
\n1. <\/strong>You can track failed login attempts from ias console<\/strong><\/p>\n

Login to iAS Console of SSO server like http:\/\/hostname:<em_port>\/emd (ias_admin\/<passwd>)
\nClick on “Single Sign-On:orasso<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Check failed logins under “Login Failures During The Last 24 Hours<\/strong>”
\n2. <\/strong>Use below query to list failed Login attempts in last 7 days including client IP address\u00a0on your Single Sign-On Server<\/p>\n

select USER_NAME||’ – ‘||MESSAGE||’ – ‘||to_char(LOG_DATE,’dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss’)||’ – ‘||IP_ADDRESS “Login Failures”
