This is next post w.r.t. installing Apps R12 on windows<\/strong>and covers prereq. step (Create O.S. User, Download & Install cygwin and set environment variable).\u00a0 For previous post with link to download software Click Here<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Installation of VC++<\/strong> and Oracle E-Business Suite<\/strong> R12\/12i (12.0.4) will follow shortly in third and concluding part.<\/p>\n

A. Create Operating System User<\/u><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

First step in preparation of “Oracle E-Business Suite Installation on Windows<\/strong>” is to create Operating System User and Add that User in Admin Group.<\/p>\n

Unlike Unix (Linux\/Solaris), You can only do single user install<\/strong> on windows (Database & Application Tier Software owned by Single User).<\/font><\/p>\n

I created user “oracle<\/strong>“, You can use same name or any other name.\u00a0 (Steps mentioned here are for Windows 2003 and can differ slightly for other version of Windows (XP,Vista))<\/p>\n

1. <\/strong>Login to windows machine as Administrator<\/p>\n

2. Start<\/strong> >> Administrative Tools<\/strong> >> Computer Management<\/strong> >> Expand “Local Users and Groups<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

or<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> right click on “My Computer<\/strong>” and click on Manage<\/strong> >> Expand “Local Users and Groups<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Right Click on Users and click on “New User<\/strong>” as shown in figure<\/p>\n

\"Create<\/a><\/p>\n

4.<\/strong>In new user window, fill user name, password, other details and click on create as shown in below\u00a0figure
\n\"Create<\/a><\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> From left pan, click on Groups<\/strong> and on right pan, right click on “Administrators<\/strong>” (as shown in figure below) and Click on “Add to Group<\/strong>” then add user “oracle<\/strong>” created above.<\/p>\n

\"Add<\/a><\/p>\n

6.<\/strong>Now logout from Administrator user and login as User created above; “oracle<\/strong>” in my case.<\/p>\n

B. Install Cygwin \/ mks toolkit<\/u><\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n

Next Step is to install cygwin (or you can use mks toolkit + gnumake), I used cygwin so I am updating steps here w.r.t cygwin Installation.<\/p>\n

I installed cygwin<\/strong> using Metalink Note # 414992.1\u00a0<\/strong>Using Cygwin to Maintain Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 on Windows (Follow this metalink Note Carefully<\/strong>; specially point 3.<\/strong>Download the Cygwin Software, 4.<\/strong>Install Cygwin, 6.<\/strong>Update Compatibility with Shell Scripts\u00a0and 7.<\/strong>Add Cygwin Bin Directory to Path under section\u00a0Downloading and Installing Cygwin<\/strong> )<\/p>\n

Download cygwin from here http:\/\/www.cygwin.com\/setup.exe<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 I am attaching screenshot for your reference (Follow instructions carefully as I missed make<\/strong> utility on first attempt<\/font>)<\/p>\n

Click\u00a0on \u00a0Run<\/strong>

Select Download without Installing<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Cygwin<\/a><\/p>\n

Select Directory in which you wish to download Cygwin <\/strong>, Note >>\u00a0this directory is different from directory where you are going to install cygwin<\/font><\/p>\n

\"Cygwin<\/a><\/p>\n

If you are using Proxy Server to connect to Internet then select Proxy Server name & port else select Direct<\/p>\n

\"Cygwin<\/a><\/p>\n

Select Packages mentioned in Metalink Note 414992.1\u00a0<\/strong>Using Cygwin to Maintain Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 on Windows <\/font><\/p>\n

Once download is complete, go to directory in which you downloaded cygwin e:\\downloads\\others <\/font>and double click on <\/font>Setup.exe<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

Above mentioned directory (e:\\cygwin<\/strong>) is actual location where we are installing cygwin and all binaries required in installation like which<\/strong>, make<\/strong>\u00a0will be in e:\\cygwin\\bin<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

Final step is to copy following files as shown in screen below<\/font><\/p>\n

C. Set Environment Variable <\/u><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

Include e:\\cygwin\\bin<\/strong> in path from command prompt like<\/p>\n

c:\\ set path=%path%;e:\\cygwin\\bin<\/font><\/p>\n

To Set it permanently use below steps <\/font><\/p>\n

Right click<\/strong> 0n My Computer<\/strong>\u00a0 >> Click on Properties <\/strong>>> Select tab Advanced<\/strong>

click on Environment Variables<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"set<\/a><\/p>\n

Select Path<\/strong> and click Edit<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"set<\/a><\/p>\n

Add ;e:\\cygwin\\bin<\/strong><\/font> and click OK<\/strong><\/p>\n
