Oracle WebLogic Server<\/strong> is J2EE Server (earlier known as BAE<\/strong>WebLogic Server) similar to Oracle Application Server<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This post covers installation of Oracle WebLogic Server<\/strong> with\u00a0available installation Mode<\/strong> and Components.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can download Oracle WebLogic Software <\/strong>from here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 (Currently it is available on Windows, Linux and Solaris and can be installed on Windows Vista<\/strong> also)<\/p>\n

A. Installation Mode<\/u><\/strong>
\n<\/span>BEA products can be installed in following mode
\ni) Graphical Mode<\/strong> – Interactive GUI based
\nii) Console Mode<\/strong> – Interactive Text Based (-mode=console)
\niii) Silent Mode<\/strong>– Non Interactive method using XML properties file\u00a0 (-mode=silent -silent_xml=properties_xml_file)<\/p>\n

D. Installation Requirement<\/u>
\n<\/span><\/strong>
\ni) Hard Disk<\/strong>– Approx 3.5 GB for complete installation.
\nii) Memory<\/strong> – Minimum 1GB as per documentation (will work on 500MB as well)
\niii) JDK <\/strong>– JDK (Java Development Kit – Not required on windows on Unix install JDK 4,5 or 6)
\niv)<\/strong> BEA HOme Directory<\/strong> – This directory is repository for common files used by multiple BEA products.
\nv)<\/strong> Product Installation Directory<\/strong>– Specific to particular BEA product like WebLogic Server, Workshop for WebLogic, WEbLogic Integration …
\nvi) Temp Directory<\/strong> – approx 2.5 times of total installation (this will be cleaned up after installation)<\/p>\n

E. <\/strong>Things to consider
\n<\/strong><\/u><\/span>1.<\/strong> Try NOT to give space in directory for BEA_HOME (like Program Files)
\n2.<\/strong> Try Not to exceed 12 characters when naming BEA_HOME
\n3. <\/strong>You can specifiy installation log file during installation like -log=\/myinstalllog.log<\/strong>
\n4.<\/strong> To start installation in console mode use\u00a0 -mode=console<\/strong>
\n5. <\/strong>To start in silent mode, create silent.xml file containing all values and use -mode=silent -silent_xml=<location of silent.xml><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n1. <\/strong>Welcome
\n2.<\/strong> Choose BEA Home
\n3. <\/strong>Choose Install Type (Complete , Custom). If you selected Custom, Go to 4 else go to 5
\n4.<\/strong> Choose Product and Component (mentioned in step C above<\/strong>)
\n5.<\/strong> Choose Product Installation Directories
\n6.<\/strong>Install Windows SErvice (only if installation is on windows AND You have administrative privileges AND this is first installation AND this is CUSTOM installation)
\n7.<\/strong> Installation complete<\/p>\n

Start Installation on Windows\/Linux<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Go to location where you have download software and start installation as<\/p>\n

server1001_win32.exe -mode=console -log=c:\\weblogic.log<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Replace server1001_win32.exe<\/strong>with executable name on Linux\/Solaris and change location to directory as per Unix like \/home\/bea\/weblogic.log (This will install BEA in interactive console mode)<\/span><\/p>\n
