The only difference lies in setting operating system parameters like kernel configuration, checking memory, disks and other resources.<br \/>\n.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">2. Objective<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>The objective of this document is to detail out the Upgradation steps of Oracle 9.2.0.6 to 10GR2 on Sun OS using DBUA .<\/p>\n<p>.<br \/>\n<strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">3. Audience<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>This document is for Oracle Applications DBA. It is expected DBA performing the installation has fair knowledge of the Sun Solaris (UNIX) Operating System.<\/p>\n<p>.<br \/>\n<strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">4. Assumption<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>\u2022 The Sun Solaris (UNIX) Operating System is installed on the Sun Solaris Hardware with all the required resources.<br \/>\n\u2022 All the required file systems are created with sufficient disk space as required for Oracle Applications Software and Database.<br \/>\n\u2022 The Staging area for Oracle Database is created<br \/>\n\u2022 Application DBA performing installation has a graphical interface with the Sun OS system. We are going to use xmanger 2.0 software for accessing the Sun OS from remote client.<br \/>\n\u2022 The openwin &#8211; xterm process is running on the server.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">5. Pre \u2013 Requisite<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>Before Starting Upgrading process we have to apply two important patches in the Source<br \/>\n1. 10g Release 2 interoperability patch for 11.5.10 (4653225)<br \/>\n2. 5478710 (TXK (FND &amp; ADX) AUTOCONFIG ROLLUP PATCH O<br \/>\nRefer Metalink Note 362203.1<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">6. Creating Staging Area on the Server<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>Staging Area is an area from where you will stage the Oracle 10GR2\/Companion Software and run the installation programme. Staging area for Oracle 10GR2 requires around 3-4 GB of disk space.<\/p>\n<p>Mount the DVD\u2019s of Oracle 10GR2\/Download from oracle websites otn.oracle.com on the server and copy the DVD\u2019s in the staging location.<\/p>\n<p>Create directories named as the stage (this you can get from the DVD\u2019s component.label file).<br \/>\nCopy all the DVD\u2019s of similar components in same stage area.<\/p>\n<p>Stage No. of DVD\u2019s DVD Contents<br \/>\nOracle11 Software 1 Disk1 \/d33\/stage<br \/>\nOracle Companion 1 Disk2 d33\/stage \/stage1<\/p>\n<p>.<br \/>\n<strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">7. Checking the Sun Operating System<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>System and hardware Configuration:<br \/>\nHardware Status: sun4 (UNIX command; \u2018arch\u2019)<br \/>\nOperating System: SunOS 5.11 Generic sun4u sparc SUNW, Sun-Fire-V240 (UNIX command; \u2018uname \u2013a\u2019).<br \/>\nCPU: 2 CPU\u2019s. Each having the sparcv9 processor operates at 1503 MHz and has a sparcv9 floating point processor (UNIX command; \u2018psrinfo \u2013v\u2019).<br \/>\nMemory size: 5120 Megabytes (UNIX command; \u2018prtconf |grep size\u2019).<br \/>\nSwap Total: (45440k bytes allocated + 4032k reserved = 49472k used) 14468936k available, i.e., 14GB (UNIX command; \u2018swap \u2013s\u2019).<br \/>\nCheck file System mounted and its respective size (UNIX command; \u2018df -h\u2019).<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">8. Create base directories for Oracle 10GR2 installation<br \/>\n<\/font><\/u><\/strong>From the mounted file system decide which file system will hold the database tier<br \/>\nFor Ex:<br \/>\n\/d35 \u2013 32 GB \u2013 Oracle 10G Database Software (ORACLE_10GHOME RDBMS,)Create directory \u201c\/d35\/ora10G\/10.2.0\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">9. Create OS group and Users<\/font><\/u><\/strong> and granting required privileges and file permissions<br \/>\nCreate operating system group \u201cDBA\u201d and OS users \u201cora10G\u201d for database tier . Note that we are planning to upgrade database tier owned by \u201coracle\u201d user but both on the same host \/ system. But new Oracle_10G Home owner and source Oracle_9i Home owner should fall under same group.<\/p>\n<p>Check the group created in \u201c\/etc\/group\u201d<br \/>\n# cat \/etc\/group |grep dba<br \/>\ndba::110:<\/p>\n<p>Create Unix Users \u201coracle \u201d<br \/>\nAdd these lines in \u201c\/etc\/passwd\u201d file:<br \/>\nora10G:x:113:110::\/orahome\/ora10g:\/bin\/sh<\/p>\n<p>Add these lines in \u201c\/etc\/shadow\u201d file:<br \/>\nOra10g:30oQlK30ch6xY:13187::::::<br \/>\nNote that the user id is always unique and also the home directory given is the base directory as created above.<\/p>\n<p>Give ownership of \u201c\/d35\/ora10G\u201d to \u201cora10G\u201d .<br \/>\n# chown -R ora10G:dba \/d35\/ora10G<br \/>\n# ls -lrt \/d35<br \/>\n\/u01:<br \/>\ntotal 18<br \/>\ndrwx&#8212;&#8212; 2 root root 8192 Jan 13 13:16 lost+found<br \/>\ndrwxr-xr-x 2 oracle dba 512 Jan 23 12:34 ora10G<\/p>\n<p>Give full file permissions on the staging area of Oracle Applications. Give \u201c777\u201d privileges on the staging area. Some unzip files are not able to get unzipped and then the installation gives error.<\/p>\n<p># pwd<br \/>\n\/u06\/stage<br \/>\n# ls<br \/>\ninstall runInstaller stage1<br \/>\ndoc response stage welcome.html<br \/>\n#<br \/>\n# chmod -R 777 *<br \/>\n# pwd<br \/>\n\/u06\/stage<br \/>\n#<\/p>\n<p>.<br \/>\n<strong><u><font color=\"#ff0000\">10.
