On request from readers, I am posting step by step installation of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition<\/strong> (OBIEE) 10.1.3.X on windows (you can use same steps to install OBIEE on Linux)<\/p>\n

.<\/p>\n

Things good to know about OBIEE Installation <\/font><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

i)<\/strong> Siebel Analytics<\/strong> from Siebel (acquired by Oracle) is now called as OBIEE<\/strong> (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition). Siebel Analytics was originally product from NQuire<\/strong> acquired by Siebel<\/strong> in 2001-02<\/p>\n

ii)<\/strong> OBIEE is different from Oracle Business Intelligence Applications<\/strong> (OBIA)<\/p>\n

iii)<\/strong> To download OBIEE<\/strong> software click here<\/a><\/p>\n

iv)<\/strong> Installation Guide<\/strong> for OBIEE is available here<\/a><\/p>\n

v)<\/strong> For list of Supported Operating System<\/strong> check Guide here<\/a> Page 15-16<\/p>\n

vi)<\/strong> There are two top level directory after OBIEE installation<\/p>\n

OracleBI<\/strong> – aka ORACLE_BI_HOME
\nOracleBIData<\/strong> – aka ORACLE_BI_DATA_HOME<\/strong><\/p>\n

More on these two directory, file system for OBIEE and important files in OBIEE coming soon<\/font><\/p>\n

vi)<\/strong> If you wish to use Oracle AS Single Sign-On server<\/strong> with OBIEE, install OBIEE on exiting 10.1.3.X<\/strong> Oracle Application Server<\/strong> (Advance Install<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

vii)<\/strong> Executable to install OBIEE on Windows is setup.exe<\/strong> and on Linux setup.sh<\/strong> (under server<\/strong> directory in OBIEE Software)<\/p>\n

viii)<\/strong> You will need JDK 1.5.0<\/strong> or higher to install OBIEE. Download JDK 1.5 from here http:\/\/java.sun.com\/javase\/downloads\/index_jdk5.jsp<\/a><\/p>\n

Installation Steps<\/font><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Start installation using setup.exe<\/strong> (Windows) or setup.sh<\/strong> (Linux)<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Next screen is for information only – OBIEE requires at least 2GB hard disk space and 200 MB temp disc space<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> In this screen you define location of OBIEE top level<\/strong> directory,<\/p>\n

ORACLE_BI_HOME<\/strong> and ORACLE_BI_DATA_HOME<\/strong><\/p>\n

– You also select installation type
\ni) Basic<\/strong>
\nii) Advance<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n4.<\/strong> Select components – In this screen you select components you wish to install with OBIEE server<\/p>\n

<\/a>
\n5.<\/strong> This screen displays all components you are going to install<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> Specify JDK Location<\/strong> and Administrator (OC4JADMIN<\/strong>) account password on this screen
\n<\/a><\/p>\n

7.<\/strong> In this screen you provide windows user<\/strong> detail and option to start BI as windows services<\/strong> (Manual or Automatic)<\/p>\n

8.<\/strong> Finally start services<\/strong> (using services.msc<\/strong>) if not already done and access OBIEE from browser<\/p>\n

Default Web port<\/strong> BI services is 9704<\/strong> and default username\/password is Administrator\/Administrator<\/strong><\/p>\n

To Access Analytics (BI Analytics<\/strong> ) http : \/\/ server name:9704\/analytics<\/strong> (Administrator\/Administrator<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong> To Access Publisher<\/strong> (BI Publisher<\/strong> aka XML publisher<\/strong> )
\nhttp :\/\/ servername:9704\/xmlpserver<\/strong> (Administrator\/Administrator<\/strong>)<\/p>\n
