This post covers managing users<\/strong> in Oracle Business Intelligence Server (OBIEE) using Security Manager<\/strong> in BI Administration Tool<\/strong><\/p>\n

Security Manager<\/strong> – is used to setup users<\/strong>, groups, synchronize LDAP<\/strong> users and\u00a0 Groups, set access rights for Objects (tables, columns) and to control over when and what data a user can access.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 User Accounts can be defined explicitly in Oracle BI repository<\/strong>\u00a0or External Source<\/strong> (Database Table<\/strong>\u00a0 or LDAP Server<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\n– To open Security Manager in BI Administration Tool<\/u><\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

i)<\/strong> Click Administrator<\/strong> from Start Menu<\/strong> in windows or<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

ii)<\/strong> AdminTool.exe<\/strong> from $ORACLE_BI_HOME\\server\\Bin\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

iii)<\/strong> Once you are in BI Administration Tool, open repository in offline\/online mode<\/strong> as shown in screenshot<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

in above example I am opening repository<\/strong> $ORACLE_BI_HOME\\server\\Repository\\samplesales.rpd<\/strong><\/p>\n

Default BI repository location is $ORACLE_BI_HOME\\server\\Repository and these are stored in proprietary RPD format.<\/font><\/p>\n

iv) <\/strong>Login to repository with Administrator<\/strong> account (or user with Admin privileges). Default password for Administrator <\/strong>account in BI is Administrator<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

v) <\/strong>once you open repository (offline\/online) using BI administration tool, you will see screen like below<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

vi) <\/strong>Now open Security Manager using Manage<\/strong> -> Security<\/strong> from BI Administration toolbar<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

vii)<\/strong> To create new user click on Action<\/strong> -> New<\/strong> -> User<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

viii) <\/strong>Fill in necessary details and click in OK<\/p>\n

Things you must know with User Management in OBIEE<\/font><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

i)<\/strong> User Accounts can be defined explicitly in
\na) Oracle BI repository\u00a0 or
\nb) External Database Table\u00a0 or
\nc) LDAP Server (OID, iPlanet, Open LDAP, Novell eDirectory)<\/p>\n

ii)<\/strong>Users defined explicitly in a repository can access business model in that repository only. They cannot login or access business model in other repository (user test1<\/strong> above in samplesales respository can<\/strong> access only samplesales<\/strong> <\/span>and not paint or any other repository stored in BI Server)<\/p>\n

iii) <\/strong>Oracle BI Administrator account (Administrator) is\u00a0default user\u00a0when you create a Repository and cannot be deleted.<\/p>\n
