Apex<\/strong> (Application Express<\/strong> \/ earlier HTMLDB) : is web application development tool for Oracle Database.<\/p>\n

Components in Apex<\/strong> : Oracle Database, tables and PL\/SQL code in database, Apex Engine, Oracle\u00a0HTTP Server (optional from 11.1 database), PL\/SQL gateway (from 10g EX or 11.1 and higher only) in place of Oracle HTTP Server<\/p>\n

Request flow in Apex <\/strong>:
\nUser type in Apex URL in browser -> Request hit web server (or XML DB HTTP Server)\u00a0-> Web server forward this is PL\/SQL call to database \u00a0->\u00a0\u00a0Database Processes\u00a0 APEX PL\/SQL call and return result to web server as HTML page -> Web Server return web page to user

Changes in APEX architecture from Oracle database 11.1 and higher
\n<\/u><\/strong>From Oracle database 11g (11.1 and higher) or Oracle XE (10g),\u00a0 you could use either Oracle XML DB Web Server<\/strong> (installed as part of database)\u00a0or standalone Oracle HTTP Server<\/strong> (Apache with mod_pls<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Option 1<\/strong>. For Oracle DB prior to 11.1 (or XE 10g)\u00a0:\u00a0 Oracle database versions prior to 11.1 require Oracle HTTP Server (Apache with mod_plsql) to access Apex .<\/p>\n

What is Oracle DB embedded PL\/SQL Gateway ?<\/strong>
\nEmbedded PL\/SQL gateway provides Oracle Database with Web Server and infrastructure to create dynamic applications. Embedded PL\/SQL gateway runs in XML DB HTTP Server<\/strong>in Oracle Database and includes core features of mod_plsql (apache module for pl\/sql), hence removing need of Oracle HTTP Server (Apache web server with additional modules from Oracle)<\/p>\n

How to configure Apex with embedded PL\/SQL Gateway<\/u> ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Run apxconf.sql<\/strong> ($ORACLE_HOME\/apex)\u00a0 – enter ADMIN<\/strong> password and XML DB HTTP Server port <\/strong>when prompted
\n2.<\/strong> Unlock ANONYMOUS<\/strong> account (SQL> ALTER USER ANONYMOUS ACCOUNT UNLOCK;)
\n3. <\/strong>Access\u00a0\u00a0Apex using http:\/\/hostname:port\/apex\/apex_admin<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 (where port is port you mentioned above, username as ADMIN and password you entered above)<\/p>\n

How to Enable\/Disable or change Port\u00a0Oracle XML DB HTTP Server<\/u><\/strong> ?<\/p>\n

To disable<\/strong>
\n1. Connect to database as sysdba &
\nSQL>EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(0);
\nSQL>COMMIT;<\/p>\n

To Enable<\/strong>
\n1. Connect to database as sysdba &
\nSQL>EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(web_port);
\nSQL>COMMIT;<\/p>\n

To check current XMLDB HTTP Server Port<\/strong>
\nSQL> SELECT DBMS_XDB.GETHTTPPORT FROM DUAL;<\/p>\n
