I am trying\u00a0 to cover\u00a0\u00a0 the password file information and root password recovery . It is not the task of DBA but sometimes the knowledge of Unix administration task help us to do the activities in effective manner .<\/p>\n

Password file information of root :-<\/p>\n

Operating\u00a0system Sun Solaris<\/strong> :-\u00a0 \/etc\/passwd and \/etc\/shadow \u00a0<\/p>\n

Operating system AIX <\/strong>:- <\/strong>\/etc\/passwd and \/etc\/passwd\/security<\/p>\n

Operating System Linux<\/strong> :- \/etc\/passwd and \/etc\/shadow<\/p>\n

Operating System HP-UX<\/strong> :- \/etc\/passwd and \/tcb\/files\/auth\/r\/root<\/p>\n

Being a DBA we need to have good idea about unix important files .<\/p>\n

Sun Solaris<\/u><\/strong> :-<\/p>\n

boot cdrom -s<\/p>\n

mkdir \/tmp\/a<\/p>\n

mount the cd using mount \/dev\/<Device>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \/tmp\/a<\/p>\n

vi \/tmp\/a\/etc\/shadow<\/p>\n

AIX<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

boot from cdrom or tape installation\/Mantienance<\/p>\n

start limited shell<\/p>\n

getrootfs hd1sk0<\/p>\n

vi \/etc\/security\/passwd<\/p>\n

Linux<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

If it LILO (Linux\u00a0 Loader) its a bootstrap program \u00a0then we have \u00a0the follow the below steps :-<\/p>\n

lilo<\/p>\n

Control -x<\/p>\n

linux \u00a0s<\/p>\n

passwd root<\/p>\n

If it GRUB (Grans Unified Bootloader) then<\/p>\n

grub<\/p>\n

c<\/p>\n

kernel vmlinuz-2.4.9-13 single\u00a0 ro root=\/dev\/hda8 initrd\u00a0 \/initrd-2.4.9-13.img boot<\/p>\n

passwd root<\/p>\n

HP-UX<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n
