@ Kanna,
This is what you can do
1.install weblogic server 10.3.4
2.install discoverer 11g 11.1.2 (select install but do not configure)
3.install discoverer 11g 11.1.4 (select install but do not configure option)
4. Load discoverer schema using RCU (you would need Disco 11g schema for configure option)
5. Start Discoverer configuration using config.sh in $ORACLE_HOME/common/bin
6. Run upgrade assistant ua from $ORACLE_HOME/bin and upgrade middle tier
7. Run upgrade assistant ua from $ORACLE_HOME/bin and upgrade discoverer schema
8. Run post upgrade task for discoverer http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/upgrade.1111/e10130/classic_post_upgrade.htm#BABJDJGG
Check documentation at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/upgrade.1111/e10130/upgrade_classic.htm#BABJCEGE
and http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/upgrade.1111/e10130/summary.htm#BABCFIEA
ReplyThanks for your valuable reply Atul, now i understood what are the steps of installation.
i have done the first three steps , after the third step i got a window saying that please run oracleRoot.sh script as root ,but i have no root privilages i am just a user in the organisation responsible for Discoverer upgrade . what does that script do actually , can a linux admin run that script easily as he dont have a knowledge on FusionMW .
please let me know
Thanks again,
Kanna
Replyand another doubt , you have mentioned Oracle_Home directory . is this nothing but Middleware directory where the components are installed?
Reply@ kanna,
oracleRoot.sh , This is generic file to set environment variables (oraenv, oratab or oraInst.loc) , simply run this from root user (select default values if it prompts for anything – though I don’t think it will prompt)
For Oracle_Home directory , yes this is directory in Middleware Directory in which ECM is installed.
ReplyHi Atul,
We are running Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.3 for OID only. I’m trying to determine if we should start to plan our upgrade to 11.1.1.4. Are there any spiffy new features or important security fixes in 11.1.1.4 that would impel us to upgrade?
Thanks in advance,
Eileen
@ eroach@calpoly.edu,
There are new features added as part of 11.1.1.4 patchset. To name a few
1. Account expiration based on period of inactivity: You can now expire an account based on user inactivity
2. Access control constrained by IP address: You can create ACIs with constraint on the IP address of the client.
3. Deleting a subtree: You can delete an entire subtree at once using ODSM
4. ◦Improved performance: Performance enhancements have been made in LDAP add, LDAP search, and privilege group update.
5. Automatic run of oidstats.sql: An administrator is no longer required to run oidstats.sql manually. OIDMON runs it, based on the number of updates in the database.
For full list check http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/oid.1111/e10029/whatsnew.htm#BGGDHIEH
ReplyHi Atul,
Could you please look it into our requirement below and please guide me.
Our requirement is to go from our Discoverer 10g reporting environment and migrate to Discoverer 11g with SSO enabling.
Need to verify with Oracle if the road map we wish to pursue is certified by Oracle and what compatibility issues exist in
having SSO enabled and working with our current EBS environment:
Set up Web Logic
Set up Repository Database
Install Discoverer 11g component
Install OID component
Portal?

Hi Atul,
Thanks for your advice that you have given me before . i am stuck at a point i.e. at RCU installation , i am not having sysdba and system privilages. i am just a Discoverer administrator with a schema name which administrates Discoverer EUL. Can i create a repository using my schema name or should i do it with a DBA who owns sysdba account .
could you please help me on this
Reply@ kanhiyalal,
For SSO with Disco and EBS, you have three options
1. OBIEE and EBS with SSO using 10g AS SSO (OSSO)
2. OBIEE and EBS with SSO using 10g OAM (Oracle Access Manager)
3. OBIEE with SSO using 11g OAM (Oracle Access Manager) and EBS with 10g OSSO and 10g OSSO and 11g OAM in co-existence deployment (this is because 11g OAM is not yet certified with EBS. Once EBS is certified with OAM 11g then remove 10g OSSO).
My preference would be with option 3 (I am currently wotking on POC for option 3)
If you have an existing EBS integrated with 10g OSSO then don’t install 11g OID but upgrade OID to 11g (You can live with 10g OID)
For discoverer you will have to migrate EUL from 10g Disco to 11g Disco.
Reply@ kanna,
To load Fuison Middleware schema using RCU, you would need a database user with sysdba privileges.
By default only user sys has sysdba privileges. Ask your DBA to assign sysdba privileges to your dicsoverer administrator schema or use sys user during RCU.
SQL> grant sysdba to ;
Replyi think i didnot ask you in a proper way . suppose i have a discoverer admin account NAGA , and i need only this to be created as a repository in RCU , can i make a repository by only giving the the username NAGA and other credentials . i am asking this because , the prod environment is 3tb database and i think i may not get sysdba previlages at all …….. so can we do it in any other way
Reply@ kanna,
When you say you have discoverer admin account, is this for 10g Disco or soemthing else.
To create schema which holds 11g disco metadata, you will have to run RCU which will ask you to connect to database using a schema which with sysdba privilege. If your dba’s can’t grant a user sysdba access (which is common) then ask them to run rcu and create disco schema.
ReplyHi Atul , when i was upgrade the EUL from 9.0.4 to 10.1.2 ( export and import) . i am receving this error . unfortunatly i am unable to find this in support.oracle
the error is “The import has failed (your End User Layer has not been modified) – the element type ” is not modified”
could you please help me
ReplyHI Atul,
I am installing Disco 11g. I have installed weblogic 10.3.4, then Disco 11.1.1.2 and update it to 11.1.1.4.
Now while running $ORACLE_HOME/bin/config.sh, it hanged at 60% (deploying discoverer)
Can you suggest me.
Thanks
Reply@ naveen,
Are you configuring Discoverer with OID or without OID ?
Check logs under oraInventory to find root cause .
ReplyHi Atul,
your suggestions helped me, i have installed Fusion middleware Discoverer 11g in a new sandbox
according to me everything went fine .
but when i am creating a connection in Discoverer plus. i am facing the ORA-12154.
i have taken the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora file from our DBA’s ,i pasted them in u00/oracle/middleware/as_1/network/admin .
so they cant be wrong .
could you please let me know what should i do to eliminate the error as i need to implement the same in the production
Reply@ kanna,
Issue is with listener only
send out put of below command from database server
lsnrctl status [name_of_listener]
also paste sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora you are using in disco middle tier (verify that service name mentioned in tnsnames.ora is actually listed in output from lsnrctl status command)
ReplyAtul,
I am really sorry ,i didnot understand about what you have said, if you please dont mind ,can you give me detail steps to check the lsnrctl.
i am not a good database person .
my sqlnet.ora is
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
#NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = corp.gen.com
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
DEFAULT_SDU_SIZE = 8761
my tnsnames.ora is
db1.WORLD =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = home1)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = home2)(PORT = 1521))
(LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = db1.WORLD)
)
)
. please let me know if i need to change anything in this
do i need to paste listener.ora file also in the admin folder
my team is killing me , please help Atul
Reply@ Kanna,
Listener runs at database level and listens for any db request. You don’t need listener in DISCO at /u00/oracle/middleware/as_1/network/admin
all you need is tnsnames.ora.
I need listener.ora from server and out put of
lsnrctl status [listenername] (ask your DBAs to run it and paste here)
____
On other note you have sqlnet.ora with first entry as ldap which means DISCO is going to look to OID to resolve Database name , port first.
In your case I am assuming you don’t have ldap.ora so it will go to second value i.e. TNS .
what is home1 and home2 here ? Do you have RAC DB sever ?
ReplyHi Atul,
I have
Installed Weblogic server 10.3.4
then installed oracle DB Rel2 and Discoverer 11g withour SSO/OID
and integrated discoverer 11g with EBS 11i
also registered EBS 11i with one of 10gAS Infrastructure for SSO.
Now question is this is best approach or should enable SSO on discoverer 11g.
Do not know what would be the best practice for the choices.
1. Discoverer 11g + SSO enable and EBS 11i integrated which is registered with 10gAS infra for SSO
2. Discoverer 11g without SSO enable and EBS 11i integrated which is registered with 10gAS infra for SSO
or both
3. Discoverer 11g + SSO enable and also EBS 11i integrated which is registered with 10gAS infra for SSO
Regards
Kanhiyalal
@ kanhiyalal,
Option 1 & 3 looks same to me.
If you already have SSO solution then I would re-configure discoverer to use SSO solution .
ReplyThanks Atul,
What would be the best approach option 1 or 2 ?

Hi Atul , its Kanna again
I like to know if below installation is possible or not
I have installed weblogic 10.3.4 and created a domain .
Now is it possible if i install
1. middleware 11g(11.1.1.2)
next
2.middleware 11g(11.1.1.3)
next
3.middleware 11g(11.1.1.4)
Please let me know if this is possible . I am aware that we need to install 10.3.2 weblogic with 11.1.1.2 fusion and then upgrade it to next step systematically. but i want to try something new….
Thanks
Kanna
@ Kanna,
When you say middleware 11g which application ?
Is this weblogic, SOA, OBIE , UCM .. ?
Yes you could install 11.1.1.2 (If there is base 11.1.1.2 available) and then patch it all the way up to 11.1.1.4 – just for fun. Tecchnically there is nothing wrong in that.
ReplyI´ve got a 11.1.1.2 Forms&Reports Fusion Middleware
When I was planning Upgrade I thought that I needed to upgrade
weblogic
Portal, Forms, Reports & Discoverer
Web Tier utilities
First two worked fine but when I tried to apply patchset for WebTier, runInstaller said that the component is not installed
Of course there is a OHS and WebCache installation on same ORACLE_HOME that PFRD.
Is it not a different installation so I don´t need to run this upgrade ? How can I check if webcache and ohs have been actualized with PFRD upgrade ?
Thanks in advance
Alejandra
ReplyHi,
We are going to upgrade Oracle discoverer 10g to fussion middleware 11g discoverer components.
I have installed weblogic server, create schema through RCU and though the config.bat we are configure discoverer in the exiting domain.
Here I need to know how can it detect old dicoverer 10g EUL schema to work for discoverer 11g?
Do we need to create new EUL schema, do we need to use exp and imp utilities ?
Your timely suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ashwani
@Ashwani,
with Atul’s permission i would like to give you the suggstions.
i have taken Atul’s help to upgrade the Disco10g to 11g and we are good now .
i hope you have created your environemnt . now please update the tnsnames.ora in $ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/ directory . 10g EUL can be used for 11g eul also as both will be on 5.1.1 version . now login into plus as you do in 10g and see if you can get into discoverer
Hi Kanna,
After creating schema through RCU , I did not configure discovere thru config.bat.
But I dont’ see any tnsname.ora in $ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/ directory , also Can you please let me know me what changes do I need to make and where?
How will it automatically recongnize 10g EUL schema to use for 11g EUL?
Thanks in advance.
Best,
Ashwani
Hi All,
We are going to upgrade Oralce internet application server 10g to fusion middle ware 11.1.1.3.
We have to install weblogic, form, report, discoverer 11.1.1.3 on windows server 2008-64 bit.
In the fusion middle ware components compatibility matrix I found that oracle forms and report builder are not supported on window server 2008.
1) Here my question is that if I install server components of forms and report then would I be able to compile my fmb files on server without development took kit(form builder)?
2) Is development took kit is the only way to compile forms?
3) If I install development kit of oracle form and reports 11g on my 32 bit windows vista client machine and compile forms from here then would I be able to use those fmx files on 64-bit server?
Please let me know solution of my these questions and your suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Best,
Ashwani
