What is Identity Federation (SAML 2.0) & Why Should You Know?
Identity Federation is Cross Domain Single Sign-On and in simple terms process of a user from company A being allowed to login to application of Company B using loginID/Password in Company A.
In Federation, there are two parties A) Identity Provider (IdP) one that user uses to Login. This in example is your company login ID B) Service Provider (SP) one that provides services like Oracle Fusion Cloud or Salesforce.
In Identity Federation, SSO Configuration is done between IdP & SP so that user in SalesForce application or Oracle Fusion Applications (both these applications on Cloud) can login via Company Login ID (IdP).
Now data between IdP & SP is exchanged in SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) which is XML based token containing Authenticated User ID and Security related data.
With Cloud Applications like Salesforce, Microsoft Office 365 , SAP or Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications more and more companies are looking for Identity Management consultants who knows and understand Federation & SAML with OAM/OID.
