Error:Install cannot connect to the database located at hostname:1522. Please ensure that the hostname, port and service name are correct and that the database and its listener at this location are up and running.

Hi today I faced some issue while installing ORACLEAS 10.1.4.0.1 in production machine.

Problem Description: This is production environment. There are two IDM servers and two Database servers. Database servers are in RAC mode.We are installing Oracle Application Server infrastructure component in the first node of IDM server, the install is failing at the step specific repository.

The error available in the log /home/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions2011-05-05_09-44-01PM.log is:

Error:*** Alert: Install cannot connect to the database located at hostname:1522. Please ensure that the hostname, port and service name are correct and that the database and its listener at this location are up and running. ***

We were not able to understand what the issue was. I am able to telnet it from OracleAS server box to DB box with port 1522.

This was creating more confusion. After a long investigation we came to know that jar file has been corrupted. The corrupted file name is libjars.jar.

Workaround:

1.    Download the jar. This libjars.jar file bundles JDBC 10.1.0.4 to be in sync with the JDBC version installed by the Application Server 10.1.2 / 10.1.4.

2.    Make a backup copy of the libjars.jar file from stage>/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/10.1.0.4.0/1/DataFiles

3.    Copy the new libjars.jar tostage>/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/10.1.0.4.0/1/DataFiles/libjars.jar

4.    Run the installer again and check if you get past of the DBRunning step and if so, continue with the installation.
