OBIEE 11g Installation : Pre-Requisites Kernel Parameters Failure

Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 11g is a product that is part of Oracle Fusion Middleware family (other products are SOA, WebCenter, WebLogic, OHS, Identity & Access Management etc).

This post is related to Oracle Business Intelligence 11g Installation issue from our  Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMW) Training (next batch starts on 17th Oct, 2015 and we cover WebLogic, SOA, OHS, OBIEE, WebCenter, SSL, Patching, Cloning) where one of the trainee encountered issue while installing OBIEE 11g (As part of hands-on, We provide step by step instructions to install & configure Fusion Middleware components like OHS, WebLogic, SOA, OBIEE, WebCenter etc on our Server for practice)

For OBIEE 11g (latest version as of Oct 2015 is 11.1.1.9) installation guide refer OBIEE 11gR1 Installation Guide

During the installation of OBIEE,  one of Pre-requisite check: Kernel Parameter got failed

kernal_param

These kernel parameters are stored in configuration file  /etc/ security/ limits.conf .

If you look at the below screenshot, the file is updated for the oracle user.  This is the user that trainee used to install the OBIEE 11g . Update the file similar to the below screenshot – at least meet the limit for which the pre-requisite check seeks. (or you can use * that means setting is applicable to all the users)

limits_conf1

After Updating the limits.conf file, reboot the Linux machine to ensure that setting stays even after reboot

After the machine came up, We re-started the OBIEE 11g installation and as per the below screenshot and all pre-requisites passed successfully.  The installation continued after that and was completed.
